Our Story

Sanctuary on Eyre
Sanctuary on Eyre

From the moment I was born, I was drawn to animals and the natural environment. They have been a source of strength, a calming influence and incredibly inspirational.

Support our Mission

We have a big vision! There are many ways you can support our mission from sharing our website and social media posts with friends and family, to donating when you can, or by becoming a foundation member which will support the development of a spacious tranquil property.

Sanctuary on Eyre

Sanctuary on Eyre will be a centre for:

  • Animal care
  • Out-reach connection
  • Pet accommodation
  • Refuge
  • Education
  • Wildlife and nature appreciation

At Our Core

  • We are a non-for-profit incorporated association with a social conscience.
  • Our centre’s facilities will be designed with animal needs and natural behaviours in mind, atypical of most animal facilities.
  • Respond to critical animal needs in our community.
  • Have education and training in pet care, welfare and safety.
  • We are as much about the love of people, as we are about the love of animals.

To deliver outstanding and holistic best practice animal support and care.

  • Provide the best possible care facilities and programs for animals, their owners/carers in the community of Eyre Peninsula.
  • To provide holistic support, care programs, education and advocacy focused on those in situations of disadvantage.

Our mission is:

"To provide an enriched and holistic animal care and support service to the Eyre Peninsula community. Assisting, developing and maintaining the wellbeing of animals and people is our priority."

The Importance of Freedom

Freedom of space is becoming a luxury for many people and animals. Family backyards are diminishing in size affecting the well-being of not only children but their pets as well.
At SOE much-loved pets will enjoy a space to run, sniff, move freely, explore and relax, while animals in crisis will benefit from calm surroundings, safe places to explore and time to adjust.

Sanctuary on Eyre

Native Rehabilition Centre

Focussing on education awareness and a facility to care for and rehabilitate native animals. An opportunity for people to have a unique, meaningful and ethical encounter with native animals.

Rainbow Memorial Garden & Reflection Pond

A tranquil, peaceful native-garden setting will house a calming pond for reflective contemplation for those who have lost their precious pets “over the Rainbow Bridge”.

It is envisaged that Cate Harrison, our benevolent founder, will avail herself of comforting, farewell memorial services.

In memory of your beloved pet there will also be the opportunity to acquire a Memorial Plaque to be inset into the “Rainbow Wall” which will gently engulf the garden.
